Jotron SatCom entering the maritime VSAT broadband market
The Jotron SatCom Company was established in June 2008 and was added to the Jotron Group and now fulfills the role as the fifth product group in the Jotron range.
The vision is to build a New Norwegian maritime satcom company after the close down of the Nera SatCom company in 2006. The main shareholder of the company is Jotron AS supported by two partners, Tronrud Engineering AS and Nerasat AS.
The management as well as the main R&D team in Jotron SatCom AS consists mainly of former employees from Nera SatCom AS. The project team has all from 10 up to 30 years of experience from development and industrialization of maritime satcom products based on stabilized antennas for the Inmarsat System and also from VSAT products development and engineering.
At present the Jotron SatCom Company is primarily organised and equipped with management and R&D resources in order to focus on the development and industrialization of a new VSAT stabilised antenna product as other support functions are handled by the mother company Jotron AS. For sales and distribution the company will use Jotron,s global distribution and service network.
Today’s modern vessels have demands for an affordable round-the-clock always on broadband data pipe with defined performance. In the future this will applies for all kinds of ships as affordable equipment and services becomes available in the market.
Affordable broadband anywhere at sea will be more and more expected and required for professional users and crews at sea. Internet and affordable communication services has become a key issue for recruiting and retaining crew. Total integration of the ship’s office with the land based offices for online fast access to information databases and all kind of templates has as well become a demand in commercial shipping.
Up to now the traditional Inmarsat services have been the only realistic option for reliable maritime voice and data, but due to customers demand for higher capacity and fixed predictable monthly cost, VSAT operating at Ku-band now clearly seems to become the dominating solution in the market for data intensive applications.
Jotron SatCom AS will provide a key product for broadband at sea with global coverage, an innovative and high performance stabilized Ku-band antenna. The product will be introduced in the market in 2. half of 2010.

The Jotron B120 also gives full flexibility in combinations of satellite frequencies and polarizations including the super extended transmit band.
